Improvements to battery technology will be key for various sectors, including for developing EVs with equivalent performance to ICE vehicles, the electrification of mass market electric cars, electrified aircraft, and higher performance, longer-lasting electronic devices. With the battery market also increasingly dominated by Chinese and Asian players, advanced technologies may also be key in enabling other regions capturing a share of the battery market as well as localising supply chains that are increasingly impacted by protectionist policies.

While alternatives to Li-ion chemistries continue to be explored, ongoing improvements Li-ion battery performance will ensure they remain the dominant rechargeable battery type. Innovation in Li-ion technology includes the development of silicon-based or lithium-metal anodes, ultra-high nickel cathodes, cobalt-free and high-manganese cathodes, the ongoing development of solid-state batteries, optimisations in additive use, electrode structure and cell design, through to developments in pack designs and battery management systems. Ultimately, there are multiple routes to improving key battery performance metrics.

This webinar will outline and analyze the role of some of the most exciting innovations in Li-ion technology. Drawing on content from the new IDTechEx report, "Advanced Li-ion Batteries 2025-2035: Technologies, Players, Markets, Forecasts", this webinar will introduce:
  • Next generation anode materials such as silicon, lithium and anode-free designs
  • Innovations in cathode active materials and their manufacture
  • Li-S developments
  • Key cost and resource consideration from advanced Li-ion battery chemistries
  • IDTechEx's outlook for advanced Li-ion technology
